The Sonoma Honey Invitational was a huge success!
I especially want to thank Alison Johnston and all our great Referees. It was wonderful to watch them on the field and how much fun it was around the Referee station. They made it work.
Thank you to all the volunteers who showed up at the field to help out.
The games all went well with almost no incidents. To watch the excitement of these Rec. players experiencing their first Tournament was a great feeling. There was an amazing atmosphere all around the Tournament.
I have included a letter written to me by one of our senior Referees. It is an example up the ‘vibe’ that was going on. “I did see something very touching which I wanted to point out to you: after the U14B final game, two of the Sonoma players on Steve Moll’s team, Alejandro Orona and Erick Gonzalez, together helped an injured player from the Santa Rosa team all the way across the field to the other team’s bench.
As the parents from the Santa Rosa team had made a tunnel for their players, Alejandro and Erick carried their injured player through the tunnel. The parents really appreciated the gesture they had made, and I saw a lot of backslapping and clapping.
I think I even shed a tear watching it. Either that, or I was wiping away sweat from the game. It was very touching though, and the best example of good sportsmanship I have seen, possibly ever.” There are so many people who put a lot of work into making the 2008 Sonoma Honey Invitational a memorable event.
