| Sonoma Excel Shines in Fair Oaks Festival |

Team Excel, the under 16 girls select soccer team from Sonoma Soccer Club routed the competition in Fair Oaks last weekend posting four shutouts en route to the championship title. Their first match in bracket play was a 3-0 win against Elk Grove with Lexie Nadeau providing all three goals for a hat trick and Mulcahy, Wirick, and sister Sierra assisting. The afternoon match was a 6-0 win against a host Fair Oaks squad led by Sierra Nadeau’s two goals and additional scoring from Davis, Differding, Wirick, and Mulcahy. Assists were dished out by Differding, Mulcahy, and two from Wirick. Keeper Karly Burningham who did not allow a goal over the weekend also provided an assist off a booming punt. Their last flight match saw Excel handle River City 3-0 to earn the maximum number of points and a trip to the championship match. Scoring was led by Davis with two goals and Mulcahy, while the Nadeau’s (Sierra and Lexie) combined for an assist each. The championship match was waged against an extremely physical Sunrise Storm team which reportedly had posted 7 straight shutouts in tournament play before Excel edged them 1-0.
