The Sonoma Sol, U10 Division 3 Girls, took first place in the home-town, Halloween Tournament this past weekend.
They played hard all weekend, and managed to have a lot of fun with orange and purple hair spray and colorful fangs (see photo)! It was a wonderul tournament and Sonoma Sol sends a big "Thank You" to the tournament organizers and players and parents who helped make it such a great success! |

In their first ever official tournament, the U10 Girls, Sonoma Sol, outshined the competition and clinched first place at the WESCO 2009 Apple Classic in Sebastopol. Sol won all three of their preliminary games against the Rincon Valley Roadrunners, SR Central Storm and the Eureka Breakers.
The Championship Game, played in 99 degreee heat, was a tough competition. Neither team, Sol nor the Roadrunners, had scored by half-time. Both teams were fighting hard, playing hard and definitely intent on a win for their first tournament. With 7 minutes left to play, Sonoma Sol showed their true spirit and taking advantage of a breakaway, scored! The game ended shortly thereafter with a 1-0 score!
These two teams will likely come head-to-head many times in the years to come - not to mention this season - and you can be assured of great, competitive games. The trophy ceremony was topped off with a "Happy Birthday" to players from both teams who celebrated their birthdays by playing a championship game! |

The Sonomoa Sol, Division 3, U10 Girls Team, shined last weekend at the Diablo FC Summer Challenge 2009! Although it was a Jamboree with no one technically recording 'wins' and 'losses', the girls won all three of their games and had a great weekend! This was their third tournament of the season and their game has improved significantly. "Everything we learned at practice, we put into the games", declared a proud #99, Hanna Maillard. Another excited player, Megan Steiger, #4, shared, "the jamboree was so much fun! it felt good to win all our games, and our coaches were really proud of us!" .
The Jamboree ended with a "Happy Birthday" song from the team to player Lucy Sondheim's grandmother, "Titi Carole". "I hated that I was so nervous I could hardly play", said Lucy. "I really wanted to win for her and then sing her Happy Birthday! I am glad we did that." Overall, it was a fun weekend and a wonderful way to start off the Fall Season.
Sol's first home league game for the Fall Season will be Sunday, Sept 20th at 12:00 pm at the SVHSW field. Come take a look at this skillful, exciting team! |
