In their first ever 11 on 11 competition, Sonoma's U11B "Cobras" outscored their opponents 17 to 1, taking their first 3 games, before losing the final in overtime to CYSA "Leon" at the Magic Cup 3 Tournament held in Morgan Hill on August 1 and 2. Coach Rick Hicks commented: "The boys played great, frankly far better than we expected this early in the season. Still, the kids were disappointed to lose the final to a team they outplayed on the field. We had two shots off the cross-bar, one off the side-post, and 4 that missed within inches. If any of them go in, we win in regulation. But that's soccer, and there's not only a soccer lesson for the team to learn from this experience, but also a life lesson. Things don't always turn out as you think they should; what really counts is how you choose to respond when that happens." |
