Sonoma Valley Youth Soccer Association Minutes for the Annual Meeting 7:00 p.m. Monday December 6, 2010 Room 110, Sonoma Community Center, 276 East Napa Street, Sonoma
Voting The registrar, Renee Caruso, had prepared a lists of eligible voters. Voters were checked off on the lists and ballots distributed by Phylis Wakefield and Renee.
Candidates There were thirteen candidates on the ballot and two write-in candidates, a total of fifteen candidates for 15 positions. The names of the write-in candidates were displayed on a board at the ballot distribution table and on the white board in room 110. Voters wrote in the names of the write-in candidates. Candidates on the ballot were: Gaudencio Becerril, Rudy Bryson, Adolfo Contreras, Areta Guthrey, Jaime Evina-Galindo, Sam Honey, David Llodra, Scott Miller, Colleen Paul, Marc Sloop, Greg Volker, Steve Weisiger and Tom Young. The write-in candidates were Servando Garcia and Mario Cabrera.
Welcome Edwin welcomed everybody present to the Annual Meeting. He thanked Pamela Wiley for being an independent observer. He also acknowledged the help of Renee Caruso and Phylis Wakefield staffing the ballot distribution table and the others who had volunteered assistance. He then verified that there were no additional write-in candidates and explained that notification of the meeting was in accordance with the by-laws: the meeting had been publicized at least ten days in advance in a newspaper of record, the Sonoma Index Tribune (from the November 23 addition onwards).
Public Comment There was no public comment.
President’s Remarks Sam gave a speech thanking parents, board members and everybody who had volunteered time in support of the SVYSA. Among the individuals he specifically thanked were Scott Miller, Tournament Director, Renee, Registrar, Deidre Verdu, the U6 AGC, Greg Volker, for his work with equipment, referees and more, Adolfo Contreras, for his work with fields, insurance and porta potties, Lynn Abaté-Johnson, for her work on scholarships and fundraising, Gaudencio Becerril for his work on field preparation, Tom Young for his work on waste management, Jean-François, for his work as webmaster, Scott Anderson for his work on the fields, including time and materials donated, the Marmadukes for hosting Cone Day, and all other sponsors and businesses who gave the League money. He encouraged people to visit the website to learn the specifics of the donations. He also thanked Vikki for her work as vice-president and Edwin for his work as secretary. He noted that despite the tough economy, registration had increased from 1,278 last year to 1,314 players in 2010. He expressed optimism for the future. He once again thanked everybody and apologized for any omissions.
Candidates’ Speeches The secretary introduced the candidates alphabetically as they appeared on the ballot, followed by the two write-in candidates, in the order they had submitted their names. Candidates introduced themselves and gave brief speeches. Marc read a text from Jaime, who was unable to attend. Following the speeches, voting proceeded. Voting closed at 8:00 p.m.
Ballots Counted A total of 49 ballots were counted by Pamela and Vikki. Election Results Pamela declared the fifteen candidates had been elected.
Adjournment The meeting adjourned shortly after 8:30 p.m. |
